Anime Expo 2011 Presents Hatsune Miku Live Vocaloid Concert

Given how popular Hatsune Miku and friends have been lately, we figured it was a matter of time before the United States would be graced with a Vocaloid concert. Looks like that time is now as Anime Expo, which will be held in Los Angeles, will get its first shot at holding the event which will take place on July 2nd. The Vocaloid concert will be held at the Nokia Theater and promises to be a delight.

For those who aren’t familiar, Vocaloid is a voice synthesizer program that has given musicians the opportunity to have a virtual idol sing their music. In a way, it’s helped democratize the music-making process, especially for composers who want to test their creations but aren’t ready to find a human singer.

Hatsune Miku, in particular, has been used quite often. So much so that she’s transcended being a mere synthesized voice and has become quite the cultural icon. This has led to her performing in a few Japanese concerts, including the “Miku’s Day Thanksgiving” concert held in March of last year. This year’s concert at AX will be based on that same concert, but will feature a few improvements over the original event such as the inclusion of some songs sung in English.

But changes or no, fans should expect to hear a lot of the songs in Hatsune Miku’s repertoire that have propelled her and her composers to success. Hits like “World Is Mine” by ryo (of Supercell) who would go on to write the ending theme to Bakemonogatari and wowaka’s “Two Faced Lovers” will most certainly be on the setlist. Miku will also be joined on stage by her friends Megurine Luka and the twins Kagamine Rin and Len to add to the fun. Either way, be prepared to marvel at this wondrous mashup of music and technological mastery that work together to bring this concert to life.
